If Rip Taylor played the drums he would play a kit with this finish!

Anyone here ever attempted a real live lacquer Mardi Gras finish? I have some VaughnCraft solid Maple's that they classify as "wrap grade" that I'm thinking of doing either a sparkle or Mardi finish on. Originally thought of a lacquer WMP, but the time & cost is through the roof & I don't do wraps on boutique drums. Hard to find any info on the Mardi's because they are so rare. Thought I could put another feather in my cap if I can pull this off!...it's always cool to offer something unusual to customers.
Thanks in advance!

1920's-40's Slingerland (US Military) Field Snares (6)
19?- Ludwig Field Snare (US Marines)
1960's Premier Gold Glitter Student Snare kit
1960's-? MIJ Snares (way-way too many)
Funny Post Rip Taylor. I can just see him playing those and throwing matching confetti in the air. I actually like that wrap.
I agree it is plain A$$ Fugly.... LOL I love Blue Glass Glitter, WMP, and Silver Glass Glitter and of course green glass glitter... Yowsa
The guru of design in our house is 10 years old. His area of specialty is cars, both old and new, but if pressed he will comment on anything. His verdict on the Mardi Gras? "Tiny metal flakes! How cool is that!" I just love the Eagle badge too . . . Bowing
What do the paper tags inside the drums say? (serial numbers & model name & location).
Does the snare have a paper tag inside of it too?
What does it say?
Does the snare mount onto the bass drum like a tom?
I too would be interested, or at least would like to be put under consideration on the list as a number 2 in line potential buyer, if that is how you handle the sale.
Me & my ugly little Mardi Gras kit are watching the auction. I'm curious to see what that kit sells for.

I happen to like the Mardi Gras and Capri finishes now. I agree, I don't think I would have favored these back in the day, but now they are retro-hip (and collectible), and some of my tastes have changed over the years.Same might be said for Ludwig's Mod Orange, Citrus Mod, and Pysch. red wraps. Garish colors that sold very poorly for Ludwig. But now on the collector market they can really ring the bell on price.
Good point. I have a psych red super classic that i laugh at everytime i see it. It is starting to grow on me but it is pretty damn ugly in the best way.

John yours looks better for some reason your finish does not look to have as many big square flakes in it.. so it is kinda cute... :)

Dude - if you bought a project kit you thought was wrapped and then turns out to have been painted and peeking out from under the paint is mardi gras, you'd LOVE it too! It even looked beautiful peeking out from under black paint!
I was curious about the current market value of these mardi gras kits so I contacted Maxwell's in N.Y. Based on photos I sent, they valued the kit @ $1500. to $2500. as a 'player'. I'm real curious to see where this auction ends up. My kit is even rarer than the one in the auction because of the Beavertails. The only thing I didn't like about the kit in the auction is; all the extra mounts they planted everywhere on the drums. Otherwise it's a gorgeous kit. I figure it'll end up selling somewhere within the range of what Maxwell's quoted me. It'll be an interesting auction to follow.
Mardi Gras is a beautiful finish. Like some of the other guys said, I'm not sure I would have bought a set back in the day, but now, I really appreciate the beauty of this wrap. It's killer on the drums.
