Merry Christmas everyone! The day is winding down and I'm back at the computer, perusing the newest eBay vintage drum listings! Just found this listing for a Rogers prototype kit and wanted to see if anyone has knowledge of this. Tommyp, any ideas? Here's the link and I'll post a few pictures. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-60s-Rogers-Prototype-WMP-Drum-Kit-13-16-22-14-Rare-/130621671935?pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&hash=item1e69a889ff

A very interesting kit!

I have never seen a cosolette type mount on any Rogers drums from the late 50's or early 60's the spurs , floor tom legs, none of it looks rogers to meand I have played them since 1965, but maybe some higher athority will know something the wrap looks right... but no badges and no interior labels Hmmmmmmm I just don't know..

I believe these drums were discussed extensively at the DFO. There are pics of the lugs off the snare drum.

I only wish i knew.I have the same 4 pc set.Same set up but my set has a 8 lug wood snare drum.Had paper labels on the 13" and 16" you can even see the nail holes from the badges.. I have had it for 25+ years i have not found out much about it.I do know that the mounts on my set are W&A mounts.Their was a member selling a set one the one you posted for 600.00 a few months ago.If this is not that set then this makes set number 3 have have seen.Iam thinking that my set,the one the member had for sale and this set maybe are prototype's of the Buddy Rich set's that Rogers came out with in the 60's...Mikey

This particular set has always been very interesting... and as Poughman mentioned, it was discussed extensively over at DFO, but I don't recall the results of said discussion. A Rogers anomaly for sure! Ploughman... what was decided on these? That asked though...

... there is no Buddy Rich connection with this set, prototype or otherwise. My BR collection is extensive and I have a lot of material from his Rogers endorsement period.. ( 1960 to 1966 ) .. Buddy started with Rogers in 1960, but doesn't show up in a catalog until 1962. ( course I have to mention that I have never seen a 1961 Rogers catalog... is there such a thing? ) Rogers debuted SwivoMatic in 1958, so Buddy's Rogers sets were ALL outfitted with Swivo hardware. He never used the W&A Rail Consolette tom holder during his Rogers endorsement... same for the cymbal holders shown with the set in question. Of all the pics I have/seen of BR during his EARLY Rogers endorsement, he is playing what would ultimately become the Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity outfit, with of course SwivoMatic hardware. His early sets featured Bread & Butter lugs of course, but then went over to Beavertails pretty much as soon as they were available in 1964.

Interesting set of Rogers nonetheless! This is the only set I have ever seen with this particular style Beavertail lug and W&A holders.

You are correct. He mentions that in the eBay write up and the DFO thread. It's also the incorrect floor legs.

But ... that's a sweet kit for the money.

Check out the DFO thread. I dont have a link yet. This is a very active seller and has dealt many rogers drums. Gary Nelson also chimed in over at DFO and recalls another prototype kit like this. In my opinion, these are definitely Rogers. The insides of the drums are exactly the same as Rogers shells. Not to mention all of the hardware. No one other than Rogers built drums like this.
