Rogers Question Last viewed: 19 hours ago

Earlier today I happened to check out a Rogers Dayton kit in the local area. It consisted of 12"/13"/16" toms and a 20" bass drum.

What I found unique (i.e., "strange") about the kit was the fact that, when the toms were mounted, the Rogers script badges were actually facing the drummer. In other words, if you were in the audience facing the kit, you wouldn't see the badges. I've never seen badges installed on that area of the shells. Just wondering if was common practice and I simply didn't notice it until now. Any "words of wisdom" would be greatly appreciated.

As long as the bass drum legs are in the correct position, and no sign of other nail holes in the interior of the shell, consider the badge factory installed. Also see if the tom mount looks factory - no tear out etc.

The bass drum legs are definitely in the correct position and I could find absolutely no signs of other nail holes in the interior of the shell. Both tom mounts are factory, too.

That's one of the possibilities that I considered, Glenn. Also, didn't Dave Clark used to mount his rack toms in what would be considered "reverse order"?

Old School: Could you post some pics? I believe Clevelands and Daytons had only one script badge per tom shell, and they were placed on the panel next to the collet mount so that the badges on a 12" and 13" faced forward to an audience in the normal double 12/13" configuration. All my Fullerton toms have two badges, so no matter how they're mounted, one badge is always visible on each tom from the front of the kit.

Glenn: How are the badges configured on your Clevelands? One badge per tom I'm sure, but mounted on which panel?

I think either Dan B, Dan C, or Ploughman could verify the normal, factory badge placement on Cleveland, Dayton, and Fullertons. I'd like to know myself.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics while I was there. The gentleman who currently owns the kit was actually hoping that I might know why the badges face "inside" in lieu of out, but I've never seen anything like that before. Everything on the kit appears "factory", both inside and out. There's one script badge on each tom, which is the norm, as far as I know for Daytons.

In addition to the Rogers script badges facing "inward", this is the tom holder that's on the kit. I've never seen a kit with Dayton labels having this particular holder. I would have thought this would be found on a Cleveland-era kit in lieu of a Dayton one.

Have a Dayton w/ twin 12 toms. Top Hat model using the early Swivomattic twin tom mount in the catalog. Each tom has a badge on panel next to the mount, each in a different direction. That means they both show to the front when mounted.
