Rogers Red Sparkle Headliner Last viewed: 7 hours ago

A while back, a long-time acquaintance had a set of Rogers drums for sale in red sparkle with a 20, 12, 14 Holiday configuration and a matching Luxor 5x14 snare drum. The price was quite fair and it reminded me of a nearly identical set I'd had in the 90's and used for a while on those gigs where you run up on the stage, setup, play a few original numbers and then clear off. For some reason I always enjoyed playing on the set and figured I'd grab this one having somewhat regretted selling the earlier one.

As I searched the internet images and the gallery images here, I didn't find anything like it except the gorgeous 18, 12, 14 Steve Maxwell has in his shop.

Does anyone else have a red sparkle in this configuration or are they more unusual than I had expected?

Picture is what I got at the time of the sale. I won't be able to set it up for a few weeks yet, but will follow up later.

Headliners usually came with a 16" floortom.

14" are uncommon plus anyone looking to add on to a headliner wants a 14" too.

It's going to be hard finding one at a decent price.

I agree that most Headliners did come with a 16x16 floor tom. Presumably that is because it was the catalog version. Some came with upgrade on both toms so they are 20,13,16 set-ups. A picture of a Swingtime outfit for sale in PA is attached. Essentially the same kit, but using a straight hex rod for the cymbal mount rather than an ā€˜L’ arm.

I have another Headliner (jet black) and in this same layout. I think both sets were together from day one (14x14 not substituted later on) because the serial numbers and overall condition is similar across both sets.

My highschool had a black diamond Pearl headliner 12/16/20 with a powertone snare. Wish I could have bought that kit.

Eric Singer (the current drummer for KISS, also plays for Alice Cooper) has a WMP headliner with a 14" floor tom he has used in a lot of recordings.

It's actually on a KISS album cover shot at S.I.R. Studios.
