Re Butcher Block....The Brady Bunch called, and they want their counter top back.....

Now, now...don't go disparaging the Bradys. There were no butcher blocks to be found in Alice's kitchen. Lots of orange though.

Maybe you're thinking of Sam the Butcher.

Ha....was wondering if anyone was going to catch that..

Yeah, I think Sam "The Butcher " Block had some.....

In my last home...the counter tops were 70's orange, and about the last thing the former owner lady said to us was "I am going to miss those counter tops"..!

We thought.."That will be around the first things we rip out!"

I'm not sure why nobody likes the koa or butcher block finish. I know the Ludwig mod orange and psychedelic kits are popular, but I don't think they look any cooler. I never said I didn't like koa, I think it's cool, but I guess not many people do. Regardless, this kit is as clean as any I've owned and it's sounds great as most Rogers from that era do.I think I'm going to keep them.

Johnny,

I'm with you. I'm not sure why KOA is so unpopular. I like it. These faux wood finishes were popular in their day, because many of us in the '70s were stripping the old pearl and sparkle finishes off our drums anyway and refinishing the wood shells. I remember there were two primary reasons we did this: many of us (garage band drummers) had kits which were pieced together with mismatch orphans of different wraps, so stripping off the mismatched wraps down to the wood gave us a uniformed, finished set. I also had friends who stripped off the WMP or BDP off their perfectly matched sets because those finishes represented our fathers' generation. Boy were we stupid.

I remember years ago..a guy used to call me from Cali, who HATED WMP..and he would always tell me how he rips the finish off every drum he gets in that finish...

Oh...and he used to always tell me how to dial his phone number, with area code,by making sure to dial "1" first...even though I used to call around the world like people change underwear...

Wondering if it would be worth re-wrapping these KOAs and Butcher Blocks since they are great drums. I realize it's sacrilegious to even bring it up but these old wraps are UGLY and I know cuz I own a set.

70s Slingy WMP
70s Ludwig Standard Aqua Mist
60s Ludwig Champagne Sparkle Downbeat
and a whole bunch of snares and hardware

I bought another Rogers kit off ebay and I really need to move these. Like I said, the kit is really clean and original and it sounds great.

$625 shipped in the USA.
