Rolling Bombers Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I am indeed a luck fellow as I have come into a set of Rolling Bombers.

A couple of questions:

1. All the Rolling Bomber Pics I see have tunable bottom heads. My set has tacked heads on the toms. 13,14,16.

2. My set has a white lacquer finish instead of pearl.

3. Floor tom has wooden pegs for legs. Is that original?

I will post more picks when I get it all put together. Paint has plenty of scratches. Been in an attic since 1959 I think.

It is my understanding that the original FT legs are indeed wooden, and usually MIA.

Wait until my friend Joeyboom sees these. He'll give you expert feedback on them. He's been restoring one of these.

Beautiful, rare old kit. Congrats... more photos please!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I have always wondered how it is that a set of these Rolling Bombers has never made it in to the Smithsonian Air and Space museum.

It seems like a such a natural fit with such a great story that really tells the story of American's getting behind the war effort in WWII.

Beautiful kit.. Congrats!!

I own the Bomber kit featured in Rob Cook's wonderful Slingerland book.

I originally wanted to take a photo of the kit set up in front of a WW2 B-17

bomber that was in town for a few days but I couldn't get it together in time.

I did get to fly on the B-17 though...Fantastic!

OK, So far so good with my Bombers. All lugs are present and

not stripped. All heads are Original I think. I am trying to fit all the pieces together. Everything clamps on the BD hoop including the tom mounts.

Lot's of toys. Wood block, cow bells and a set of 5 temple blocks in nice condition no cracks. There are all kinds of rods, clamps and various holders and sorting it all out is very interesting.

You would think that clamping the toms on the BD hoop would crack the hoop but it has not. I will probably never play them very much. Just trying to get it together for a good picture.

On the 14" tom, the bottom head is there but tacks are missing. That is the only thing missing from the kit that I have found so far. Lot's of dirt and a little rust.

OK Here they are. Finally got them put together I think.

There are zero extra holes in the bd. There are holes in the floor tom where at some point someone had put on legs. Also some kind of mount on FT???.

(see pic)

Still cleaning.

Lot's of small old cymbals. A couple of extra thin Zildjians A's and several no names with large bells.

Also an AMAZING home made wood pedal. Probably from the 20's-30's.

It still works. I will post it later.

Were the tacked versions a cheaper line or just earlier?

Man those are really cool. Very nice original condition too. How do they sound? Maybe the extra bracket on the floor tom is for a cowbell, woodblock or cymbal on a L arm? Just a thought. The Rolling Bombers are some of the most unique kits from Slingerland I've seen. Good stuff and enjoy them.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
