Rototoms Last viewed: 49 minutes ago

How does everyone feel about Rototoms? I like the way they sound. I would probably use them if the stand/track thing was better designed. It bothered me back in 1984 and it bothers me to this day. I get that they are not real toms but I love how they can be tuned to actual pitches. I would never prefer them over real toms but I do think they have their place in drumming.

I use mine tuned tight, very tight to get that Island sound and loose, very loose to get that disco sound. the rest of the kit fills in the blanks !! I leave mine behind and above the HH cuz I play them together.

True about the rack design, it shakes to much !!

I recently bought a set of Slingerland "quad" roto-toms in 8/10/12/14. Very cool. But I haven't really used them much yet.

I had a set of 6/8/10 back in Jr. High in 1985.

Louie Bellson did cool roto-tom stuff.

I had some rototoms once...

I built a large fire in the street in front of my house and danced around the flames while they were reduced to slag.

It was fun, and made me smile.

Tried them years ago when they first came out,and hated them.I thought they would sound like real toms but they were weak. They needed to be mic,d individually and we did,nt have enough outlets on our PA to do that.I,ve played the same set up for over 40 years now,and the roto toms were just a pain in the butt:2Cents:

A roto tom makes a pair of KILLER bells!!! You have to punch out the centre bit, then you're magic!!!! I see no other use for them. That's what mine turned into...

Yes, I copy-catted Terry Bozzio, but then again- he's a waaaaaay out-of-the-box thinker.

Terry Bozzio thought they were cool back in the 1980s when he was with Missing Persons.

IMO they remind me of single headed concert toms

Terry figured out a way to mount rotos without the rickety rail thingy, as well. Too bad his solution never made it into production...

I like them. Had a set of 3 roto's on one stand. Forget the sizes it's been years but a nice addition to my old Slingerland kit. But they were the smaller ones. I do agree the mounting was not the best and wish they could have been angled a bit to flow better. Kinda flat and some almost pitched outward which was odd. But I dug the sound they had.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
