Do Ludwig Classic Lugs fit on Ludwig Standard shells without having to modify the pre-drilled holes?

Have you ever seen that ? Crazy story there....when they discontinued the Standard line....they still had a bunch of Standard shells and badges kickin' around....but had stopped production of the hardware.

Lo and behold...they took the leftover stock...and slapped Classic lugs/hardware on 'em...and sold 'em.

Once in a while you see these. Initially, I figured that someone had just switched out the original Standard hardware for Classic. But a friend told me he had bought his kit brand new like that...then a few months later I found an article online confirming this is what had happened.

Kinda quirky.....

You all seem to be mentioning the word "Standard." Does the fact that it's a ruby strata finish mean it's a standard?I want to figure out how to date this set. Along with it came with a WFL speedking pedal, nice ludwig hi hat stand, a bass drum, and a rack tom. There are no badges, though a hardware box that came along with it has a bright yellow Ludwig badge. The bass drum hoops are inlayed with the same ruby strata wrap. This set is intended to be 4 piece, and has a cymbal stand mounted on the bass drum.

The strata wraps were on the Standards, not the classics. No badges? ... fishy. Are you sure it is strata? Are you sure they are actually Ludwig? Some Asian knockoffs were also wrapped in strata. Photos would really really help.

These are ruby strata Ludwig Standards. :

my set is a 4 piece-- the tom is mounted on the kick. The finish is exactly like the picture you posted (EXACTLY) i think it was just a few years previous to that one though...

there are serial numbers, however.

Look, we want to help, but without pictures of YOUR DRUMS, we are only going on supposition. Please post some pictures of your kit, and the serial numbers, and a close up of the lugs. That will put an end to this. Do you need help posting? Send an email to me with the pix and I'll post them, or when you click on "Reply to Post", scroll down and find the section below that says "Manage Attachments" There you will be able to add photos.
