Rudiments in Rock Songs Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Thanks Mac! Exactly what I was saying. Swiss triplets are -based on- a LLR, or RRL sticking pattern. I didn't think it would turn into a debate, but then, there ya go.

That sticking pattern (LLR) is a -repeated figure- throughout the Manic Depression groove. An example of a rudiment used to build a rock groove which is what Johnny was asking for.

Thank you for posting that video.

I want to put this baby to sleep!

This is the tablature for Manic Depression. See my notes. Johnny asked for examples of rock grooves that are 'based on' rudiments. At the core of the Manic Depression groove is the repeated triplet figure. The sticking is RLL based on the Swiss triplet.

The first note of the triplet is played on the bell of the ride and bass drum, (played with the right hand and right foot) the second two hits of the triplet (played with the left hand,) are on the rack tom. Get it? RLL! Based on... a Swiss triplet! Whether you add the flam up front or not, the sticking pattern remains the same, either: RRL or LLR. I thought I communicated it pretty well the first time.

I've played this number 1000 x's with three different bands. I wasn't kidding when I said I can play it in my sleep! I know the groove inside and out. Hope this puts a lid on it. Although I seriously doubt it! Some people are 'fact resistant' by nature. LMAO

Geez, stop trying to rule the freekin' roost.

It was a simple thread that asked a very simple question ... until Mark (or anyone else, for that matter) questioned your simple point.

IT DOESN'T MATTER.

It doesn't matter if this is based on a Swiss Triplet or a Swiss Model or a Swiss Skier or a block of Swiss Cheese.

What is Hip - Tower Of Power - David Garibaldi.

Main groove is a paradiddle between hi hat and snare and while stepping 8ths on the hi hat (at least that's how I've always heard it) and you'll hear some drags and flams, double stroke and single stroke rolls. Garibaldi is so unbelievably creative. So many of his amazing grooves are based on some variation of paradiddles and he makes them feel so good.
