Selling On Ebay Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

I've never sold anything on eBay. I'm not having much luck on Kijiji or Craigslist these days so I may resort to eBay.

If I have a drum that I don't want to sell below a certain price I put a Reserved Bid on it - right? Is it worth doing that or is it better usually to just let the bidding market take its course and hope things work out price-wise?

For example: I have a snare drum that I think is worth about $600 for a number of reasons. Say I put it in at a reserve of $600 and it gets no where near that and it becomes one of those Reserve-Not-Met items. What would eBay charge me for that service? Is it a percentage of the Reserve of $600 or do they have a flat rate - or both?

I'm going to eBay and do some reading ----again----because I remember the last time I was thinking about selling something the fee structure looked way too complicated and I just didn't bother. The item was over $6K though.

I know some of you have a ton of experience at selling on the Bay and I thought you might be able to offer some advice/cautions etc.

Thoughts?

Holy-Crap! It does not look overly expensive to sell in any format - but why do 'humans' make things so complex!!? I don't think I am human....I can't be.

If I were King I'd make a rule:

EBAY FEES FROM NOW are like this.......gimme a few bucks for selling something over $50 and a buck if it's under $50...and be done with it.

Something like that......sheeesh....a one-liner for heavens sake. Keep it simple I say. I think they'd still make a ton of money with my 'simple' method.

Please keep in mind I was involved in a meeting all day......Federal Government - planning for MAJOR CASE MANAGEMENT - and it made me harken for the simpler life...........growning up in the 50's/early 60's.....you know what I mean.

The listing fee is not really the issue, it is the final value fee.

Here is a handy calculator

eBay fee calculator

Another fee calculator with more specific listing details and Pay Pal fees.

eBay Calculator

Your looking at about $64 for a $600 drum and a $600 reserve

Remember that does not include Pay Pal fees.

You can also take 13.3% by the total and that is approximate fees.

So with Pay Pal it is about $80 to sell that drum at full price - (without shipping)

Which, for most sellers represents the profit on an item in that price range!

You end up working for ebay and their, 'Jekyll' alter-ego, Paypal.

It's not easy to accumulate over 200 transactions while maintaining a 100% positive feedback rating. I walked away from it. They stuck their hands just a bit too far into my pocket. Simply isn't worth while to do business there any more.

There are wise-guys who are still doing time for charging today's interest rates 30 years ago!

Too many great drums to list here!

I recently talked with ebay a few days ago and here is what is coming.

They told me as of May the cap is going from 100.00 to a whopping 250.00 per transaction. Sell a 1500.00 set of drums, used to be 100 now 135.00

These are the new fees and structure to those who do Not have an ebay store.

Also they are doing away with the 3 and 7 day refund policy...14 or 30 day or returns not accepted.

My guess is they are looking to go to 10% fee and a min 30 day refund policy.

Lookout !
