Severe snare drum problem/question? Last viewed: 50 minutes ago

Loading...

I bought this snare drum off the guitar center site; Based off its description I believed it to be either a 70s or early 80s Rogers r360 snare. In actuality from the research I've done and from what I've been told by a couple of credible sources that this is indeed some sort of generic snare drum, possibly first made by Pearl...

It's a 10-lug 14" metal snare. I've searched the net and seen SEVERAL snare drums identical with various different brands on it. Can someone please elaborate on this for me? And was $60 with shipping a good deal? The drum is in really good shape...

Your drum is from the mid 80's.Most likey made by Pearl.Pearl made 1,000's and 1,000's of these snare drums with about 60 different names on them. You paid to much for the snare in other words you paid for the Roger's name on the snare. These snares with an name other than Rogers on them sell for 20.00-40.00 all the time....Mikey

One look at those lugs would tell you that this was made by Pearl (or one of its other overseas affiliates). Bottom line here is that you got the drum that was advertised... That's what a Rogers 360 is, a lower end offshore model. The good news is that Guitar Center is fantastic with giving refunds if you're not happy with your purchase. In this case, they did nothing wrong, but if you don't like it, then maybe just take it back. I have a couple of those snares, one is badged 'Supra' (ironic, huh?) and the other isn't badged at all and came with a Westbury kit (am I allowed to say Westbury on this site?... Lol!). I'm not particularly fond of the sound on them and basically have them as trade sweeteners when someone is looking for a 'throw in' snare.

Yep. that's Ernie the cheap generic metal snare drum from the 80's with a Rogers R-360 foil sticker on it.

As Bill Saluga from the Ace Trucking Company comedy troupe would say:

" You can call it Ray. Or, you can call it Jay. Or, you can call it Ray Jay. But, you doesn't has ta call it Rogers"

And, RJ, and RJ jr., and the very formal Raymond J. Johnson, jr., too.

You have a pretty much standard issue entry level steel shelled drum, produced in the tens of thousands and sold with a host of entry level kits under a bazillion different brands. Generic Entry Level Snare.

If you are happy with it.... enjoy it. For years, no one wanted the lowly Acrolite because it was a student snare drum produced in the bazillions and cast aside at first opportunity to escape the stigmata of using a student drum. For years you could buy them for 5 bucks all day long. Now... not so much. It is a worthy drum capable of performing at any level.

This R360 series will never be what the acrolite is, that much is certain. However if it pleases you for the moment, enjoy it. Buy something else when you can afford it.

Yup, everyone on here is right,

I have this in the R-380 version with some kinda dual sliding strainer and butt end.

Sounds kinda tommy with a slight snare sound (crappy) to me.

Beat it.
