Sharing Kits at gigs..... Last viewed: 10 hours ago

I'm not a fan of sharing kits, but my new band had our first gig Sat, and the drummer in the band after us said I should use his kit, to make the adjustment easier after we played. Since he had a new Gretsch Renown maple I agreed. I have never played a new drum set, only vinatge, and I hate to say this, the kit was off the chart killer. HUGE sound from such small tubs (10/12/14 20)

it was amazing, now I find my self searching for a used one. (like I need another kit right) he had pin stripes on it, heads were tuned loose, and the sound was fantastic. what a nice kit................

The gig was really well recieved. crowd was into it, packed house. and our agent said we did so well. he already gave us another date.

There's been a Renown Maple kit around where I live that is listed on Craigslist... at a pretty darn good price too. I keep watching it to see if it goes any lower because I might snag it up!

Yea those Renown kits are very good sounding drums. I bet in a live setting, they would blow you away!

Sharing is always scary. A lot like Forrest Gumps proverbial Box of Chocolates, you really do not know what you are going to get until you sit down to it. When I was playing with a band, there were times sharing on someone elses drums was necessary, and it was almost always ugly. The one good sharing experience I had also involved a high end Gretsch kit. Drums were newer, in fantastic shape, well tuned, and enjoyable to play.

yea those renown kits in my opinion are the best bang for your buck ,

despite being made overseas let just say. But the quality is as good as it gets for a lower budget. Some of the Finishes are like silver slate and some other gold sparkle like were limited and look outstanding. A great kit for the money.

One of my favorite modern Nashville /studio/Blues drummers, Tommy Wells swears by those Gretsch kits. He gigged and recorded with his.

I can't comment on the Gretsch kits because I've never played one but regarding using someone else's drums...To me, it feels like driving someone else's car. I can do it, but it never feels quite "right".

Agreed. I never can completely relax and play as if I do when I am on my own kit. Sometimes the opening act will let me adjust the kit to suit me that is a big help when on another kit.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
