Should I paint it? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Either buff it shiny, shiny, or maybe powder coat in your favorite color. I mean, they're cheap to replace and prolly billions of them out there, right? Or, just put it back together as is. I mean, YOU can't see the sides when you're playin' it.

Whatever you do, you must post after-pics.

Cheers

well, it seems mixed between polishing it and playing it as-is. I suspect the polish job will exceed the cost of another acrolite (and maybe even a decent Supra) so I am shelving that idea for the moment. The shell is is good shape dent-wise; only the strainer mount holes were pushed in, and I popped those out already. There IS slight deformation around some of the lugs too, but it is very minor. In high-gloss black, they would be much more apparent...

The badge is a bit corroded as well, so a high polished shell would look funny with this badge, so I'd need another badge...

I'm torn. Everything is ready to go, I can have it back together in an hour or less, or paint it which will add another day while it cures. Plus I need a striper to stripe it, which is more money. Maybe I'll just do the inset grooves in the lugs red and leave the entire snare mat black- that will somewhat resemble the finned polished aluminum Offenhauser rocker covers from the 50's and 60's. Maybe a moon decal to finish it off...

Still stewing on it, but I will post pictures when it is done. I just have to decide what to do!

I decided to leave it alone.

Here she is, all back together! I'll put the build details on my other thread.

My comment to paint it was because I thought it was in really bad shape. I'm glad you didn't. It looks great in stock form.

Now you got me thinking I should hit up that pawn shop that has your drum's sibling. :)

Well it looks great in a dark room (not unlike some women I have known), but in the sun it's another thing...

It's fine. No point making a $300.00, $100.00 snare!Laughing H

I had another thought, but I suppose it's too late. I was wondering how it would look bead (or, coconut shell) -blasted and then clear-coated. Maybe a few coats.

Food for thought.

I did some old aluminum bicycle crank arms for a friend in glass bead blast years ago.

They looked great! It should look equally nice on an Acrolite too.
