no downbeat here. but I do have a sideways lug entry in my stable if you don't mind me posting it here. transition badge jazz combo in oyster pink pearl.
mike
Thanks all for posting shots of these surprisingly great snares.
Mike - Your Oyster Pink Pearl matches, or beats my black galaxy one for rarity of the wrap. That's a beauty! And a 6-lugger!!! How does that one sound? Wetter than an 8-lugger I would imagine.
John
Have not had the luck of scoring a DB snare yet but I did recentley acquire this super clean 64' Jazz Combo.

Jazz-combo's are just 6-lug versions of the Downbeat and every bit as cool. Please feel free to post shots of your jazz-combo's if you have em!
John
they are more shallow at 3 and 3.5 inches deep as opposed to the 4 inch deep downbeat. It sounds great, but I haven't played a downbeat to compare..
mike
No tone control and only a 13 inch head on the Jazz Combo as well. I would imagine a higher overall pitch then the downbeat.
Mike - You'll know better than me, but I thought the Downbeat came in a 3", or 3.5" model as well! If so, then they probably used the same 3"/3.5" shells for both drums! 6 & 8 lug versions, Downbeat and Jazz combo.
John
PS - Didn't see your note about it being a 13" drum until after I posted... different drum then for sure. I thought it was just a matter of 6 or 8 lugs to determine the model. If it's smaller, then it's a different drum entirely. Mike, is yours a 13" as well? J
John and KCDrumDad,
Well, I can't say I'm not jealous. I have the matching pre-serial '63 downbeat kit in Black Galaxy, only thing missing is the snare. I'm assuming these things are rare. I've looked for them and saw one on Ebay a couple of years ago. Too bad it was $1200 and I was broke. Oh well. One day.
