Single flange hoops and head sizes-help? Last viewed: 5 hours ago

I am cleaning up a beautiful Leedy Slingerland snare. The resonant hea snapped when it was being reinstalled. I put an Evans reso on it. But the snare strings bind between the head collar and the hoop.

There's a Gretsch RB with the single flange, same head...no problem. Obviously the shape of the hoop is a little different. There's no "gate." The hoop is formed with a space for the strings.

I ordered the Aquarian American Vintage heads, thinking the collar may be thinner.

Any advice on this? If the strings bind with the Aquarian heads, I will file off a bit....

Another forum has chimed in on this -- the Aquarian 'flesh collar' is believed to be pretty wide. I don't know if this will be in addition to the slightly larger diameter of the head. That's one of the Aquarian selling points, and the 'modern' Evans is pretty snug - it doesn't rotate freely, like I think it should.

Would filing a flat spot on the outside of the metal head collar cause any problems? It really only needs to be 3-4 mm..I think

Thanks!
