Sistek Music BMP Gretsch? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

I picked up a BDP Gretsch kit for very reasonable price. Of course it is a real project kit. The mounted tom is complete, with round badge but needs some TLC, some pitting of chrome, the 22' BD has the rail mount, but missing the badge, front hoop, and t-rods, the 16 x16 floor tom is what has me guessing. The fl. tom is clearly not a gretsch. Probably an MIJ, it has a sticker and several stamps which say "A New Wonder Product 1969 made (by) for Sistek Music Co. 4628 Broadway Cleveland 27 Ohio"

The odd thing is the wrap matches perfectly, and it appears to be original BDP wrap on all 3 drums. I recently bought a 16x16 round badge era fl. tom shell no hardware, no wrap, I wanted to rewrap it to match but all the BDP wrap samples don't match but for some reason this MIJ fl.tom wrap matches perfectly.

Any thoughts?

Anyone ever hear of Sistek? Anyone know where I can get a wrap which matches the vintage Gretsch wrap?

Indeed a conun"drum".

1. Would it be possible to (very carefully) remove the wrap from the Sistek and put it on your round badge?

2. Do the lugs and "fixins" on the Sistek match the rack and bass drum?

3. If they do match, why not use the Sistek with the rack and floor? You can even throw a round badge on it if you really want everything to match.

Have you tried any wrap samples from Precision? I had to get some new BDP hoop inlay for a missing hoop on some 66 Slingerlands, and other than the fading on the originals, the BDP matched pretty solid, so I don't think BDP has changed all that much over the years.

The lugs and leg mounts are different though they look like they were trying to imitate Gretsch lugs of the time. Unfortunately the holes are slightly closer together. I was thinking of trying to peel the wrap off the Sistek and put it on the ft. shell, but then there's the issue of finding hardware (fixins) and the holes on the wrap would most likely be covered by the lugs.

I'm going to just use the fl. tom as is for now.

I did get a sample from precision and the pattern is smaller, it might work for hoop inlay but I think it would be too noticeable for the fl. tom.

I've seen many "Sistek Music" stickers in drums. Then again I'm in Cleveland. They were before my time but must have been a pretty large outfit. I still may have a drum or 2 bearing the sticker.

I guess they opened in either 1919 or 1923, funny but the NAMM newsletter from 1923 lists Sistek as incorporating in that year, with 3 partners, located on Broadway in cleveland and later moved to a higher number address on Broadway. These are from 1969 so clearly they were still around. Curious to know if they sold other instruments, and if they made drums or just put stickers on MIJ drums.
