Actually...the inside of my kick is painted...couldn't find any date stamps though. But...all of my serial numbers are in the 1000-2000 range, meaning these were some of the first serial # drums to roll of the line! I have the matching Supra also with a 1366 serial number.

thats a lovely kit. my kick and rack have pre sn badges and mu ffloor has a sn that apppears to be 66ish, but i dont put a lot of stock in the sn as they can ne wwildly inconsisyent. thanks for showing me your tubs! theyre fantastic.

It's a beauty. I happen to have the COS 8 lug slingy jazz fest and it's got a fairly similar sound to the acro. It does have a beaded seam, however, and crimped snare beds.I have a related question; I have a Supraphonic, late 70s, that does not have snare beds. Does anyone know anything about this?

Not aware of a snare by Slingerland called a Jazz Fest........

You got a pic of that drum?

Wondering if it's a Sound King with 3 lines around the shell?

Thanks

Maxwerm - sweet kit! When you said "Jazz Fest" did you mean the Festival model snare?

Thanks for the props on the kit...I happen to be quite fond of it! As for the mystery Slingy snare...now my curiosity is peaked as well! I don't know much about Slingerland drums, so any new knowledge I gain is a plus for me!

Slingerland never made a Jazzfest. The jazzfest is a Ludwig wood shelled drum.Slingerland did make a Festival model, but it has no center bead or lines.

The drum you may have would be a Sound King or Radio King, which have the "3 line " shell, and either 8 or 10 lugs. The shell of both drums are COB,not steel.

My Sound King is a mid 60s drums with crimped snare beds COB.The Acrolite has an aluminum alloy shell, and really doesn't sound at all like a brass shelled,or steel shelled drum.

You might have a Gibson era steel import drum, which I think did have a 3 line shell.Post some photos,I'd like to solve the mystery.

Yeah. I meant Festival Model Chrome snare drum. I just added the Jazz part out of assumption.

And it's crimped, not beaded. My bad.

Sorry for misleading you, guys. It was just a case of incorrect nomenclature.

It's an 8-lug model, and based on the sn, it appears to be from 1978. It is a great sounding drum, and it sounds better to my ears than most acros I've heard.

Does that kit have the nickel hardware? Mine has nickel and the hoops are nickel over brass. It's funny, the nickel was cheaper in the catalog, but I think it looks nicer. Maybe because the nickel doesn't pit. Or maybe because I haven't seen as many :)

Anyway, yours looks to be a little cleaner than mine. mine has a couple of holes from an aftermarket drill job where the previous owner put another mount on it for an additional cymbal mount, I believe. And the rail is a little bit guffed up from previous owner(s) overtightening.

Nope...my hardware is not nickel, but the chrome is really not in bad shape at all. As a matter of fact, the kit is in really nice shape for it's age....especially since it was (and still is) a player's kit. There is a little rash on the rack tom and one of the bass drum hoops was cracked and has a repair, but this thing is a beauty! No extra holes, no cracks or seam lifting and has all original hardware. The rail consolette still works fine, but I think the tom just sounds better on snare stand...seems to resonate more.
