Sling SSK 70's Last viewed: 21 minutes ago

Here is some background on my Super Sound King snare, I bought it brand new at the Niles Slingerland plant some 40 years ago, around 1969. She is a beauty, 6.5 x 14 10 lug. all original except for heads and wires. This snare has been with me ever since, I gigged with it early in my days, but for the last 30 some years it has been sitting in an enclosed case, in my home. I have some pics here, I was going to put her up on e bay with an opening bid at $499, if someone here wants it I'll take of 50 bucks. she is in fantastic shape, any questions just ask.

Say what? These numbers don't make sense. It must be a typo. Can you clarify?

Thanks,

John

Sure, 2 things that make this drum worth more,

1. its a SSK NOT a SK

2. I'm the original owner that bought it at the Niles plant 40 years ago

3. here is a SK guy is asking $550 for it, I dont see a SSK on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-70s-SLINGERLAND-6-5x14-SOUND-KING-CHROME-OVER-BRASS-SNARE-DRUM-LOT-K74-/270897186187?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f12bb058b

and the drum is in unreal shape, many of these are all dinged up and scratched. now does that make sense?

I would value some of the veteran members here anyway

Hey John!...

This being the Slingerland #121 Super Sound King places it in a little higher area cost wise. Parallel strainer, or as Slingerland Drum Co. called it: "Dual Super Snare Strainer"... ONE OWNER DRUM... near MINT condition... complete, no missing parts. NICE drum! These almost always sell for more than their regular Sound King bretheren. Course all that said...

... it has always been the policy on VDF that the seller can ask whatever they feel the drum is worth, without suffering backlash on their asking price! On the other hand, perhaps you were just inquiring about the model number and not the asking price? If that was indeed the case... my apologies John! Super condition, nice drum regardless!

Curious! What is the difference between a SK and SSK?

Thanks!

That would be that sneaky little extra "S" hidden in the middle.

Check out the Slingerland links provided on this very site. Wonderful reading, and some stellar stuff by the good doctor.

It's all making sense now. I was confused about the asking price, not on the legitimacy, but what the figure(s) was. I get it now......

"I'll take of (typo--meant 'off') 50......"

No complaints here on that figure at all. I've never seen one with INTERNAL wires. Very interesting.....

My education and exploration continues!

OOOOHHHHHH!!!! Fiddlesticks!!!!

I think I am getting this mixed up with another one I saw through this site....with external and internal wires, that cross. Can't remember exactly where on here I saw it.
