Slingerland 1994 HSS possible purchase Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

First, I want to say that I realize this is NOT a vintage kit, but felt that posting in this section would most likely attract those of you more familiar with this.

I saw this posting on ebay and thought it might be a nice project... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171100516756&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

My first thought was "cool project"! The kit appears to be in VG condition and even includes an "Artist-style" snare drum with Zoomatic strainer. I know that these Spirit shells from the HSS time period should be 5-ply mahogany. Certainly not the best, but not the worst shells, either.

Any thoughts on this offering and what a fair price would be? Keep in mind that shipping is free, which, to me, accounts for about $100+

if you want em, go ahead but...

IMHO...taiwan AIN'T Slingerland

and

No taiwan kit is worth that unless it's

a) been played/owned by someone uber famous.

b)is in some way very rare or collectable

or

c) is a monstrous kit with 2 kicks and a slew of toms.

just my 2 cent

if you can get em for a song, then it may be an ok deal.

they seem a tad pricey for what they are. I purchased a set of late 80s/early 90s. all I did was clean them up. $300 from a Music-Go-Round

Seems like a lot of work for $450. Also take note of the sellers negative history. I think your money would be better spent on something else. Or get the seller down in price after the sale ends.

Thanks to all who have weighed in with this HSS Taiwan kit. I'm very much aware of what this kit is...and is not!

My whole point is that I'm not looking to acquire a vintage kit. I've got plenty of those! This HSS kit appears very clean and is basically wrap-ready. I'd be free to install whatever color I prefer... and even install a different mount if so inclined.

I guess the point is that I love to customize kits like this for my own pleasure. Even at the BIN price, which I wouldn't pay, where else can you get 4 nice wrap-ready shells, plus clean hardware for so cheap? True, the shells are not maple or birch, but they're not Luan either!

Again, thanks for the replies!

Yeah I had just looked at that and wondered what in the world you were thinking? At $400 it's a possible deal. At $800 it's a joke.

Yeah, I'm quite sure many of you were thinking "what in the heck is Mark thinking"!!!

I received a message back from the seller saying they upped the price due to the fine condition of the hardware. What they don't seem to realize is that a complete set sells for less than the value of all the parts to assemble it. They are still open to offers, but just not $300!!
