Based upon the color of your badges, your drums appear to be late 1960s.

See this chart for more info:

Based upon this 1967 catalog page:

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/finishes/slingerland/67_slingerland_back.jpg

I would suggest they MIGHT be "sparkling champagne pearl." HOWEVER, more than likely it's gold sparkle that has faded OR silver sparkle that has aged to a nice "ginger ale." In any event, it will be very hard to match other drums up to it.

Hope this helps,

Bill

Hi,

Agreed with all of the above, Remove a Lug & see what colour shows up underneath, This should help with the colour ID.

What sizes are they ?,, (may be part of a Jet Kit with the BD rims replaced).

Beautiful kit, looks like somebody has treated them well..

and I just had to reply ..The head is bearing my initials,,

Cheers (from even further downunder)

Yes, I thought the same about the Jet possibility...

And hey -- JL... John Long? That does make sense.

IF so, you're the third "John Long" I've made an aquaintence with!

Can`t tell what the color is for sure, silver or gold? Looks like late 60`s badges, really great shape too! Yes Sir. Is the bass drum an 18"? What kind of snare stand is that? don`t think that I have seen one of those.

It's a DW. Looks like a model 9303...the one with the small basket.

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

Those are very nice. Look more Silver than gold. I would try to find a matching floor tom for sure. even if it is a Ludwig, Gretsh, shell in Silver Sparkle. Then you could maybe trade it for a Slingerland down the road if something came up.

Those drums are so nice I would even consider building a floor tom with Slingerland lugs, and hoops and Silver sparkle wrap from a keller shell or whatever quality 3 ply rering shell you could find. Looks like those Bass drum hoops are ready for a inlay strip. You have somethig great to build on I can say that.

thanks for the response to my post, LongJohn the kick logo is the initials of the previous keeper who lives in Melbourne. The sizes of the the drums are kick 20 x 14 and 12 x 8. My understanding the lineage of the kit is that recently ( 2 years ago )the kit was obtained from a keeper of 20 years in LA. The story goes that he had a a floor tom that went with it but lost contact with it over the years? I cannot check colour under lug as it is in transit, but silver sparkle looks more the correct call as the gold would more likely go a more orange hue(guessing).

RE more info please on The Jet release as I am unaware of its history, it seems as though the kit is slightly different as their is no tom mount on kick, also what is the process for inlay onto existing hoops and source of wrap to fit purpose.

Thanks to all for replies, as a relative newby I am on a steep learning curve.
