I have a set of MWP slingerland drums - kick, 2drum toms, floor tom and cob snare, all with pressed lettering (not smooth) black/brass badges on them. On the bass drum setomatic is a red sticker with silver lettering approx 3/4" x 2-1/2" that overlaps the top and bottom of the inset which is approx 1/2" x 2-7/8:". The 'S' on the slingerland name on the sticker is the same as the S on later black/sliver badges, rather then the S on the black/brass badges on the drums, which have a pronounced 'hook' at the top of the S .... From what I can find, the sticker is early 70's, but the badges are late 60's... I am somewhat aware of badge timelines, but unaware of sticker timelines, is this sticker possibly a reproduction put on.
Slingerland badge/sticker question Last viewed: 21 seconds ago
Try this for starters. It is available here at the top of the page under Vintage Drum Identification.
tks.... have checked there, plenty of info on badges and I know that the badges on my kit are from the 60's, no telling when they were mfgd in the 60's......... but theres nothing on the sticker.... and thats the big question.... if its not a appropriate with the badges, it must be a repro.... if so, I'll probably remove it ....
Red "Slingerland" stickers (Silver against a red background) are from the 70's. It's possible that they are reproductions, but the stands may have been added a little later. Pictures of the drums and hardware are needed!
I have pics of the setomatic with the red sticker on it.... the sticker does not fit the inset on the setomatic, overlaps at the top and bottom.... along with a pic of the badge.... which is why I dont think the sticker is correct for the drums..... not sure how to post a pic on this..... never mind.... figured out how to attatch pics
it's factory, that is the way they where.
then is it possible that they put a 70's sticker on an older late 60's set ? The badge timeline indicates that the brass/black stamped/inlaid badge is from the 60;s ---- if so, what would be the correct 60's sticker... or would you recommend leaving them as-is ?????
Yes that is a transition period, so this is correct, the stands from the 60's would have black/silver decals on them the 70's stands would have black/gold decals, the set o matic decal is correct leave it be.
