Slingerland Bass Drum Shell Questions Last viewed: 44 minutes ago

Loading...

So I recently picked up a bass drum shell and decided that I'm going to leave it "as is" in lieu of wrapping it. My plan is to build a little "player's" kit around it with a couple of champagne sparkle toms that I've got.

However, I do have a couple of questions regarding its "as is" condition:

1. Would it be wise to treat the shell with some sort of lemon oil or tung oil prior to installing the hardware and heads?

2. I've noticed that this particular shell takes two sets of spurs. Does this indicate a specific "model" of Slingerland bass drum?

THANKS for your time and your help!

If it takes two sets of spurs, and is a 70's kit, it could have been part of a Buddy Rich kit. I think those did have double set of spurs....? Hmmmm

The buddy sets had double spurs, so did the 24's. If its a 24 that is a score, it looks in good shape. Looks like it has some nice figure to the grain.

That's not a Buddy bass, but man oh man it's a beaut. Dang. That is gorgeous.

I count about nine different kits that fit the parameters of that bass. Without more info, that's about as close as I can get. Sorry.

It's a 22" shell.

Soooooooooooooooooo..........any reason to treat (Tung Oil, Lemon Oil, etc.) the exterior shell on this one prior to installing the hardware?

Thanks!

I can't think of a reason. I would just clean and wax it up. Give it a good hand buff. Unreal. I love the look of that bass.
