Slingerland Bass Drum Spur Mounts & Spurs Last viewed: 59 minutes ago

Some time ago I picked up an early 70s 14x22 Slingerland maple bass drum. The drum came with two sets of spurs mounted on the shell. I've got a few questions that I'm hoping you Slingerland "gurus" can help me with:

1. Would this particular bass drum be known as a Buddy Rich model?;

2. Does anybody know the length of the factory-issued spurs that would have come with this particular bass drum?; and

3. Did Slingerland change the configuration of its spur mounts through the years or were different mounts used on different models of its bass drums?

As usual, thanks in advance for your time and your help!Bowing

Beautiful drum! No, it's not a Buddy bass. It's missing the two cymbal mounts. In the later part of the 70's, Slingerland started putting twin spurs on most all of the bass drums. They were the thicker model. The Buddy bass has the real thin ones from the late 50's-very early 60's. Pain in the neck to track down! Again, outstanding bass you have.

THANKS for the positive feedback as well as the information you provided. I truly appreciate it!Bowing

Would my drum have been issued with spurs 12 inches in length? I ask since I've actually got a combination of 11", 12" and 14" spurs. I was thinking that perhaps the 20 inch bass drums were issued with the 11" inch spurs, the 22s with the 12" and the 24s with the 14". Is that how it went?

believe it or not, the longer ones go with the 20" bass drum.

they mounted their spurs at a high position on the drum.

I never did understand why.
