Slingerland Black Beauty on eBay - wow Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

Just saw this in my eBay feed and thought the community would be interested:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slingerland-Black-Beauty-Snare-Drum-from-Late-1920s-/271343318964?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276

I am not selling this nor do I have any stake in its sale, but I understand this is extremely rare find and this would be the place to share it in hopes it ends up in proper care.

This article suggests really quite rare at least as of 2008: "John Aldridge, publisher of Not So Modern Drummer magazine, has a penchant for keeping track of any Black Beauty—type drums that show up, especially the rarer varieties. According to him, only seven previous examples of the Slingerland drum have come to public attention." :

I do see one other on sale for $17k in NYC. Significantly higher than the prices I'm seeing for this era vintage Ludwigs in the 2-5k range.

That's no joke, Larry! I started thinking about how much I could get for my car just so I can buy that drum!

The Slingy Black Beauty's are -much- rarer than the Ludwig's of the same period. Daily double indeed! If I had the coin... it'd be sitting right next to my Luddy black beauty. Sweet, rare drum and on every vintage drum loving bozo's Bucket List.

Too rich for my blood...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I think there's around 17 known, between 5's and 6.5's.

I owned one from 1980 until the late 90's, when I got an offer I couldn't refuse at the Chicago Drum Show.

its not as nice as johns

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
