Slingerland Chrome Over Wood Snare Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Have seen a few chrome over wood Slingy snares in the last few months. They use a plain chrome shell (no lines or distinguishing marks), 8 lug, Zoomatic strainer. Looked at catalog scans on here and can't find anything on them.

Question: Are they good snares, e.g., collectable, or are they more like a student model and not worth all that much?

Thanks!

Eight lugs and a zoomatic COW shell? An 8 lug snare with a zoomatic says Artist but I can't find any Artist models in the catalogs with a COW shell either.Could you post photos, especially of the badge, serial number, and interior an bearing edge.If its a wood shell,I'm thinking 5 ply maple/mahogany/maple if its a late 70's drum..just not sure.

Here are pics of one of the chrome over wood snares. Others I've seen had the black & silver, Niles badge...nothing from the 60's I suspect.

It looks similar to a Festival shell, plain, no lines/groves. But, unlike the Festival, it has a Zoomatic strainer and, as you can see, it is Chrome Over Wood. I checked the catalogs and found nothing about it...looked in Student, professional, Sound King, Radio Kings....nothing! But, I have seen probably half a dozen of these in the last six or so months.

The one in the pic is #571xxx which, according to the serial number chart, is somewhere around early to mid-80's. For my collecting, that is way too late in Slingerland's drums...won't go much past mid-70's.

Hi All,

Just bought a Slingerland COW black/silver Niles badge 14x5,5

Seen many already but this one has the stickchopper hoops not 6-8 or 10 but 12 holes and 24 lugs .

Any Slingie-addict or DrumGuru that can tell more .....you're welcomeYes Sir

Possibly 8-lug shells left from the transition into almost exclusively 10 and 12 lug offerings for the HSS Era in '89.

Just a presumption here.........

I've had a few over the years with Zoomatics...and there's one in my ever growing project pile now (I think with a rapid strainer) and I"m pretty sure they've all been early to mid-80's.

I can't tell you much about them, other than, I don't think they're as "Exotic" as "Chrome over wood" makes them sound and if you gig with it, you'll get a kick out of people telling you how good it sounds for a metal drum.

:)
