Posted these on GN a few days ago to no response. Thought this forum might have some Slingerland collectors before I have to move on to an auction site. I bought this kit 10 years ago before I started building my own. Now they don't get played, which is a shame. They still sound great.
Vital statistics: 3-ply shells with solid re-rings. Set-O-Matic ball and socket mount for rack toms. Plain white gloss/semigloss finish. Niles, Illinois badges. Based on these facts, I believe the kit was made between the years of '76 and '81. If I'm wrong, please chime in. Can provide more pics.
12" rack tom, serial # 214519
13" rack tom, serial # 233342
14" floor tom, serial # 233363
20" bass drum, serial # 229449
Most of the chrome on the kit has small pits and rust spots in places, but everything still looks good and functions like new. All lugs, leg brackets, spurs, Set-O-Matic, claws, T-handles, and internal muffles on toms are original. I think the floor tom legs are replacements. I'm pretty sure the hoops and heads on the bass drum are original. The BD hoops are missing paint in several places. The chrome hoops and T-rods on the toms were mixed and matched with other drums long ago, and mostly too rusty and warped to bother with. I can try to dig some out if the buyer so desires.
All bearing edges are in good shape. There are some bumps and scratches, but no gouges and no delamination between plies. The bass drum and floor tom do have small (maybe one inch) spots where the innermost ply has delaminated right next to the reinforcement ring. I have included pictures of the insides of those two shells. The bass drum looks like it was partially submerged in water at some point, which probably led to the delamination. You can see the water mark on the inside of the shell. Whatever damage it left appears to be very minor. Another mystery is the dark splotches inside the FT shell. They appear to have been sanded and sealed over, so it might have happened at the factory. Just wanted to include those details in the interest of full disclosure.
Also included: Ludwig Speed King bass drum pedal. Still in great shape and fully functional. Beater is likely a replacement.
Also also included: Slingerland hihat stand. The vital mechanics are very much intact, but one or two tubes were raided for parts.
This is good, solid equipment that has stood up to a lot of abuse (much of it mine). They deserve to be played by a Slingerland collector who will appreciate them. I'm asking $600 OBO plus shipping for the lot.
