Slingerland Nashville Studio King drumset Last viewed: 3 hours ago

First off, thanks for the feedback on the Ludwig Standard kit. I have passed on that one. Another kit has attracted my eye and I wanted to get some expert feedback. It is a Slingerland Studio king with the Nashville badges. Five piece with matching snare. 16x22, 7x10, 9x12, 16x16 and matching 5.5x14 snare. I am guessing the sizes as the seller was not 100% sure (see pic below). Anyway, he is asking $900 and the kit seems to have some cosmetic blemishes and is finished in a dark green/black satin type finish. I have tried to read up on these kits and there seems to be two camps of opinions. One camp thinks these drums are the cat's meow and are as good as it gets. The other camp seems to think that these are decent drums but way over hyped and are just another run of the mill higher end kit with Keller shells. No real sales data on ebay. Let me know if you think these are worth the asking price. I want this kit to play, but ultimately only want to pay a price that I know I can get back in re-sale. I'm also concerned that the finish is not desirable. Let me know what you experts think.

Thanks guys

Thanks,

If there are no serious hidden flaws and those are the correct dims, $900 would be a steal. Depending on condition, the snare is worth at least $500 on its own.

Its safe to say the reason you don't see many of these sets on Ebay is because most who own SK hang on to them.

Whether or not you'd like the sound is another story. You might want to play a set first. Having said that, if these are original and in good condition, at that price, they wont be on the market for too long.

if you pass, please send the info my way. I'd be interested.

Good luck.

The price is a great price. As already mentioned the snare drum is close to the asking price by itself. They aren't vintage sounding. But hey are great sounding drums. I've played a couple of these kits.Go buy them.

I've only read good things about them. $900 see,s to be a good price.

Johnnyringo inexplicably passed on a set of these recently and rumor is he's regretting it :)

My only concern is the finish color and the dings. This is not a perfect analogy but I bought a Tama Starclassic performer four piece with matching snare in a similar style Blue satin finish for only $100. It sat unsold for a couple of years in a guitar center store and I watched it go from $799 to $699, $599 etc. I finally called one day and the guy goes "I'll sell it to you for $100 if you buy it now. I'm sick of seeing it." I was glad to get the deal but realized how important finish and condition can be.

When I sold it a year or so later, I only got around $275 for it. Granted, this is Starclassic Performer versus a Slingerland Nashville. I have not seen much love for these style finishes.

I played a wmp set at Mars music and thought they were fantastic drums.

Those probably cost close to 4 times the asking price when new.

As I remember they improved/changed some of the hardware during the run.

I CAN'T see you going wrong on those at that price, unless you are looking to flip for big money.

I have a Nashville Snare and it's great. So a snare being my only experience with them, isn't much to go on but based on that snare your going to do well.

I'd love to have a set of these. I never heard or played any but see so many good reviews on how nice they sound. These are priced to sell. The few kits I've seen for sale were in the $2000+ range. There was a blue stained one on DFO a few months ago with matching snare. I wanted them so bad but lacked the funds. I would not mind the little nicks in the finish. You can always touch them up if they really bother you. Good luck and keep us posted what you decide!! Oh BTW do these drums have die cast rims on all?

Once I found a complete set of NSK Slingys for $300 around my area. It was 12,14,16,20 w matching set on Burgundy lacquer (Might not be the actual name of the finish). I knew it was a quality set but i didn't pull the trigger because Im very shy on buying anything younger than 1981…Im still knocking myself for being such a donkey…

I hear nothing but good things about Slingerlands from this era. Unless you really want an older kit, do it!
