Slingerland nickel plating Q's what year was it dropped? Last viewed: 22 minutes ago

Anyone know the year Slingerland dropped nickel plated lugs, hoops and hardware and went to all chrome? Looking at the catalog scans here I see in 59 it shows only chrome hardware. The last year before than is 55 in the snare section which still shows both nickel and chome prices. I didn't look at the drum kit section yet. But was curious if anyone knew?

Also after they stopped putting nickel parts on drums how long were nickel plated replacement parts available?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search here but did not find any answers.

Thanks,

Glenn.

GREAT question; I have a late 50s single ply (steambent Maple!) snare with a clamshell strainer all in nickel and this could help me pin mine down a bit as well. Wish I had your answer, but I too await further info... One thing to remember; Plating goes like this (whether over brass or steel) - Copper (adheres to the base metal) - nickel (makes it silver) - chromium (makes it brighter/whiter and shinier). Nickel plate is cheaper 'cause you skip the last step, otherwise chrome plate is already nickel-plated.

I remembered it because it caught my attention when I first read it. Ludwig had nickel in the catalogs in the 64 and ive seen nickel as late as 67 with Ludwig.

You'd think Slingerland would have offered the nickel hardware longer. I thought it would have been mid to late 60's like Ludwig. Good to know. Well thanks again Mike!
