Obviously scuffed on the insides 'cause they transported them stacked inside each other.
BTW -- looks like black diamond pearl to me... and I see you have "(BDP)" in the title, but to my knowledge Slingerland never offered the Oysters (in that era, anyway!).

Correct on all counts, for some reason I thought Slingerland called their BDP, Oyster Black Pearl. I found a 1971 Slingerland catalog, and it's in fact called Black Diamond Pearl. Thanks for pointing that out.
