Slingerland Pop Outfit 85N? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Good luck finding a bass drum with the same exact degree of fade as the other drums. I am not an advocate of altering vintage drums. But, if done properly, only you would know that your bass drum started out as single headed. The listing of the twin to your set further supports my disinterest in the "catalog correct" fixation that is an obsession for some other collectors.

I'm totally with ya on the cataloge stuff for sure, but it would be obvious that it was once a "pop" bd because of the foil lining inside and the lack of rings. Also I assume the metal ring is attached somehow which should leave holes if removed (like a concert Tom shell).

I'm gonna keep it as is as an anomaly and keep an eye out for a 20 inch shell in great shape to join the team down the road!

I think that is the way to go. Keep your options open.

Well!

Its definitely a factory kit. Serial numbers are all 194xxx except for the floor tom which is 1951xx so no doubt they were born together in roughly late 74/75.

The Soundking snare is #104533...so Id bet that was a leftover that was added on to the purchase at the shop. The kit was purchased new by the guy that I got it from. It is in very nice shape. Original batter heads all around including the bass drum logo batter head! The heads sound pretty rough...but they are all there and all the tension rods/washers/hoops are all there. No major dings in the finish or anything. Minor fade is noticeable in low light, but in the sun they look bright as can be. Some dust and minor pitting here and there on chrome. All in all a fantastic kit that should clean up to EX+ condition. The bearing edges are all pristine and the drums are round. The 6.5x14 Soundkind snare is a major bonus in my book!

Id be playing this kit out later this month if it wasnt for that darn bass drum! Ill have to figure something out there!

As another bonus I got some semi junky sounding but in nice shape crash cymbals (Ludwig Standard) and some Kashian hats that actually sound killer. Also included was the original Slingerland bass drum pedal, hi hat stand, and two flat base cymbal stands. Ludwig snare stand and porto-seat in killer shape also included. Oh...and did I mention a full set of Ludwig cases?

What a deal!

The pic Im posting sucks, but I just wanted to show off that original bass drum batter head!
