I had this guy contact me who was hired to do a poster for Slingerland and was looking for pics of a monster vintage sling set , (I guess that would be me LOL)Somehow he tracked me down. He asked me that I set it up with cymbals, snare like it was ready to play. So I re-arranged some of the drums, added cymbals, snare, hats, and made it like it was all set up. I wish someone could tell me how I can configure it better, I still can't reach all the drums. I still need 6 arms, all 45" long to play this kit. LOL>>>>any tips? I had to put the hats on the right, too many drums on the left...I put the 20" floor tom on the left, looks pretty cool there I think

Gary,
That kit is so cool! I would suggest moving the hi-hat back over to the left and pushing the two floor toms back into position. Move the cymbals in a bit to tighten up the camera shot. Empty space is good in a song but not in a promotional photo!
As to actually setting up to play, most guys would probably only put one tom on the left kick thus making room for the hi-hat next to the left kick pedal: usually using a clamp to support the stand so the stand legs do not get in the way. Then your smaller toms can be raised up OVER the hi-hats. That will leave you with one extra rack tom but there are plenty of places to put that.

First ... wow. What a very cool thing to happen! Poster size image of a drumkit owned ... neato.
Bee ... Is this guy going to bring the kit to a studio and shoot it? Is this an onsite thing? Is he going to move it outdoors or what?
Three ... Agree with Squint. Slip that hh in on the players left by moving the floor just a tad over. Nicely done.
Smaller toms need to be higher. You really don't HAVE to have toms all lined up, yea it looks cool but it's not practical. Break them up. Mount the 3 small toms above left floor tom for better attack, Mid toms should be behind snare, lower toms behind right floor toms. Even double row the toms instead of the line up. Or for something different, mount the small toms behind right floor toms.
Here is how I set mine up. Hope this helps, and congrats on the poster, cant wait to see it, keep us posted. Was this the one at the Chicago show? I think you took it down before I saw it, bummer!

Opps, I went back and looked at yours again and see you have three more drums than I do. Sorry.

Yes, I'd try to get the small toms higher and in closer, try to set the larger pair of the toms 10-12" ?around to the right (and in over the floor toms).. For the pics I reckon a "Black" covered throne would blend better with the kit.
Cheers

Just send them out here to me and I'll take care of em. :Santa: kidding........But really cool he wants to do a poster of them!! Your kit is by far one of my favs. Any way we'd be able to buy a poster when done??
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I'd drop some drums to make it practical. You could shed 4 to 6 drums and still have plenty for the shot. If the guy wants to make it look like it's ready to play, don't forget to make room for the hi-hat in the proper position, and put pedals on the bass drums. It's a cool kit, but I don't see how any normal-sized person could actually play them comfortably.
Congratulations.

Sweet.
You probably don't have the hardware for this, but put the 12 and 13 double-headed toms between the two bass drums. Move the 14 and 15 over above the floor toms, Keith Moon-style. Then you can raise the concert toms up above the HH Neil Peart-style. Both of those moves should make the HH and ride more accessible. Putting the 16" FT on the left might give you more flexibility in the set-up.
Too bad you don't have Super Set-O-Matic mounts. That system is still not very advanced, but it's infinitely more adjustable than the regular S-O-M. Not only is each individual drum separately adjustable, but steeper angles are also possible.
