~ Slingerland "JET" outfit No. 20N ~ Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

I was searching threw my collection last night and look what popped out a dirty aqua blue Slingerland JET outfit (I can't find the 14x14 right now).... okay guys before you say something... I will tell you this much as you can clearly see it does not have the two chrome hoops on the bass drum and it is NOT the 14x18.

Hum, for some reason, I thought the "JET" was 12x14 like the Ludwig Jazzette but I was wrong....

Okay now what... well, I took a real good look around VDF and found a 1967 Slingerland catalog page for the "JET" outfit and guess what, I still think it's a "JET" only because I see in the 1967 catalog it points out that a person could also have the 20" bass drum that was offered for $10.00 more. Mine also has the rail consolette tom holder (it's off the shell right now) which is also listed but deduct $5.50?

Help me out guys could this be a "JET"... it's a 12x20 bass? What is this? Click below and see!

You don't supply any pictures to suggest this is a "Jet" outfit, only those of the bass drum.

Next, the entire premise of the "Jet" outfit was the use of "Rimshot counter hoops, aka "Sticksaver" hoops, on the bass drum, with the addition of the snap-on Tempo King pedal.

Most Jet outfits came with a 14x20 bass drum, but also came with a 14x18. I see no reason why a 12x20 couldn't be custom ordered, but it would still come with the COB hoops and snap-on pedal. If you changed it to use wood hoops and a "normal" pedal, would it still be a "Jet" outfit? Maybe in name only, but I tend to feel it's not a true "Jet" outfit.

Another indication of the Jet was the use of the "Buck Rogers" snare stand to hold the rack tom. The rail consolette was another option and I've seen Jet outfits with them. By 1970, Slingerland did away with the snare stand and began using the Setomatic tom holder.

I've attached some pictures of a "Jet" outfit I owned some years ago, complete with snap-on Tempo King pedal. A Setomatic holder was installed and the original Buck Rogers tom stand was used as the main snare drum stand. It was a beautiful kit!

Don't feel too bad for him Mike, he can always come over and play mine. Not to mention, he has a few to keep him happy....

Gary!!

BTW, yours was the kit I was referring to in regards to both an 18" kick and rail consolette! We need to set up our Slingerland kits and trade 4's!

Hey idrum4fun,

After I read your thread, I did some more research on my Slingerland drums and I discovered that those drums are called "2-N JOBBING outfit". The 2-N was originally released a 3pc jazz outfit which is shown in detail in the 1964 Slingerland catalog. Thanks for your information and those pictures of that beautiful "JET" set.
