Yeah, that's what is tough...I can't see the edge well enough to see plys or if it is solid. Anything else we can look at to verify which one it is?
I also see some light in between the rim and the drum...wonder which one is out of round...

It is a solid maple shell but it has a split that is what I'm referring to ply separation. Here is a quick lesson in Radio Kings, I've only owned one Rk that was actually in round, and I've owned a lot of them. Gene Krupa was to slingerland what ringo and the Beatles were to Ludwig, Slingerland built Rk's 24/7 the wood was not properly cured/ie- green wood, and tight flesh hoops where not kind to these ole shells so most are not in round, go try to get this drum. you'll be all smiles.
this is a Hollywood ace model .7x14" it looks like!, there is one broken lug that is visible also there is some ply separation on the left snare bed. an easy fix. offer him $250.00 and see what that gets you.
$250. great place to start. He may bite. I'd go as high as $500 or $550. for those tubs. Rare drums. Restoring them would be a really fun and gratifying project.

I can't tell if that is ply separation or just re-ring separation from the shell...but my eyes are far from perfect. Inspect them closely. Take and post more photos if you can. Just don't tarry too long. You know what they say, "You snooze, you lose." This would be a nice one to not lose.
Ok, so just a little bit more ignorance from me, and I think I will be done, haha!
Radio King vs. Hollywood Ace. I read on one thread that Hollywood Ace snares are 3-ply instead of solid shell. Is this not the case?
Is this snare a solid shell?
Kevin
Who Gives a Damn. those are Slingerland Classic Drums, In a finish that will turn heads. even if it is an ace the seperation is easy to fix. if it is a RK wow 550 is a great deal. and if it is an ace still 550. that kit is killer. if you are having, "buyers remorse". please let me help. i'll help by buying the snare. CryBaby
It is a Slingerland Hollywood ace this is the name of the model. it is a Radio king solid maple shell. this is a cloud badge model your talking about, not a 50's or 60's model and even then they had solid maple shelled models then to along with plied shells.
look here. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/catalogs/slingerland/1936_slingerland_pg5_large.jpg
The Hollywood Ace wasn't offered in a 3-ply shell until the late 50s, if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks everyone for the help! I will keep everyone posted as to what we end up doing!
