I have an opportunity to purchase this kit for $850. It is an early to mid 50's Radio King. The sizes are 22, 13 and 16. The wrap is original but has severe sun fading and has a couple of small cracks. The bass drum is virgin which I find odd. The interiors look great and the shells are in round (or so I am told). The inlays on the bass drum hoops are replacements. It seems to me that half of the value of these Radio King kits are the snare drum which this does not have. Is $850 a decent price?

Seems like a fair price to me, and I don't find it odd to have a virgin bass drum. The tom likely had the clip to bass drum hoop mount. The interiors on the 13" looks pristine. The wrap for the age looks in good shape. The fading and minor cracks wouldn't bother me too much. I'd see if the seller has a little wiggle room ( maybe you can knock off $100 ) but for the age and condition I think it's a fair price.

Is it possible that the rack tom was mounted by one of the rim clamp style mounts? It looks like a nice kit to me. I'm no Slingerland pro, but it looks like a fair price to me.

I thought about that as well except the tom would have either the mount attached to it, or holes where the attachment used to be and it does not have either. Thanks for the feedback.
There are no holes on that tom for a mount? That's a little odd to me. Unless at some point they were plugged up.

I got the seller to send me this photo. It definitely was the hoop mounted tom for the bass drum.
More pics. I think I will go for it.

floor toms, even in the common WMP, are often expensive. Usually $500 or so on their own. But I'd say 24" and larger bass drums are more popular with Radio King sets. The clip on hoop mounts seem easy enough to find and, to my recent surprise, work pretty well. I always assumed it would be an unstable set up until I gave it a go and it worked great.
