Just picked up a 1960 Radio King (aka Super Gene Krupa) with Clamshell throw off. My question is did Slingerland lacquer the inside of these shells? Because I drum I just acquired is lacquered inside.

I have a 1957 version of the same drum and I will have to check on that. Get back to ya tomorrow.
Which wrap does yours have? Mine is black diamond pearl.
I just checked on my '57 and it is not lacquered.
Those were unfinished inside.

Ive got a few of them and neither of them are lacquered. They were raw on the inside from the factory..
For what it's worth, I have a 1962, WMP, three point strainer that I purchased from the original owner recently. I am confident that it is unmodified; it has a lacquer finish on the interior.
I wonder if lacquer was a factory option of some kind? Mine is a 56-59 Chicago badge drum. No ink date stamp inside just the beautiful bare maple shell. Can you guys post a pic of the lacquer finish on yours? Would like to see it. Interesting thread too.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I purchased this recently from the original owner, along with the rest of his kit. He purchased the snare in the spring of 1962, so this could be a 1961 or 1962. There is no date stamp. The drum has a lacquer finish inside. It has not been modified, inside or out.
Really nice snare thanks for the pics.
