Slingerland snare mufflers Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hey,

Does anyone know when Slingerland stopped using 2-pad mufflers on their snares? My son just got a 1-ply Krupa with a 2-pad muffler. The badge dates it to 60-62 (Niles and the S with no swoop). Just wondering if it is more a 60 or a 62.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving! D' Drummer

It is the early 60's when the change over occurred.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I happened upon an interesting thread on this site, copied below:

Yes, in fact the badge and tone control placement helps us narrow the date on your drum quite nicely. The key is the badge placed to the right of the 3-point, along with the fact that it is the second black & brass Chicago oval. Slingerland's snare drums looked like this from the late summer of 1960 to the early spring of 1961. And the riveted 3-point with twist and other features on your drum are correct for that period.

There you go... you have a treasure, congratulations!

I am wondering if this statement about the placement of the badge and muffler applies to the Super Krupa of the era. My son's 60-62 badge 1-ply Krupa had the badge on the right and the muffler across from it.

Was his made from the late summer of 1960 to the early spring of 1961?

I have a '61 set. The tom is from early '61 and has the two pad muffler; the floor tom is from late '61 and has the later style muffler.

There are always discrepancies with badge, muffler and strainer placement. And I think you can switch the placement of the clamshell throw off and butt.

I'd be interested to know how someone could pinpoint a date ("late Summer of 1960"?) that accurately. In my experience, very few changes made by Slingerland can be attached to specific dates, with the exception of changes during WWII, where things were documented with actual dates.

Typically, Slingerland placed the throw-off next to the badge.
