Picked up this brass shell snare a couple of weeks ago. It has 3 center ring's in the middle like the regular Sound King's.The mystery question is,all the snare's I've ever seen like this has a Zoomatic throwoff, this one has a Rapid throwoff. I've never seen this before....have you?[Attachment: 98061]

There are (reportedly) Festival Models around that used that shell, (in times of production shortages of the steel shells)...

Nice drum...

Cheers

Nope, Great snare and the rapid should work well.

Creighton

Nothing special here but I like them.

It works like a charm. A lot better than the Zoomatic.

I had a 10-lug COB with Rapid strainer and matching butt and have only seen another handful of these. Your drum also appears to be a 10-lug, correct? I don't know if these drums were special order or if they were mistakes! Either way, they are fine sounding drums...and somewhat rare! Enjoy yours.

I'm currently away, but will post a picture of the one I had when I return home.

I have one with a 6.5" shell and 8 lugs. I also prefer the Rapid strainer.

Hey Matt!

I think this is the first 6.5" version I've seen with the Rapid strainer. Very cool!

I had a `70s 6.5" Soundking snare, and I had been keeping my eyes open for a less common `60s black and brass badged model with the 6.5"shell.

When I saw this one with the Rapid strainer, and in great condition, I did not hesitate to buy it.

The only problem with it is that the strainer that is on it, is not the original. It did come from the factory with a Rapid, but I am pretty sure this strainer is a later `70s replacement.

Wasn't sure if the entire strainer, or just the knob was not original, but I think the entire throw off side is a replacement.

I'll find a correct `60s version eventually.

No. It's an 8 lug.
