Strangest thing to me is the strainer and butt alone are worth well upwards of $100 if they are in good shape.

I don't find this one bit surprising. Many people here just throw these old, rickety looking, weak shells to the side of the shop, after robbing them of the hardware, and never even try to listen to them. (many of them do, I agree, deserve to be tossed, but many of them are quite good. If you want to know, PM, I will keep your secret, I have a lot of experience with these "cheap copies" that sound amazing. This particular type of shell is quite viable, and they are easy to work and very inexpensive)

These little shells, no matter who you are, have a place on your shelf, and if you would give one at least a good turn, and take a little time to work on one, listening to those of us that know how to work them, you might find out you like them afterall, because they do sound good.

Just because they are not what you consider "professional quality", because they are "just a stencil, a cheap copy", ask this gentleman. He will tell you again, this is a viable instrument, and he has done nothing to the drum, nothing other than wipe the dust off. I am telling you guys, these old, cheap drums have some fantastic depth, tone and playability. Take one to your next gig, play the hell out of it, and see if you don't like the range. This one, I will tell you, has a range he has not tried out yet. And if you sand those edges to a little more closely resembling the StarPhonic wood snares by TAMA, you might have found an absolutely classic sounding snare.

Just because I say they sound good, you guys don't listen because I am the MIJ dude. This guy is an Amercan drum guy. I would think he has more credibility with some of you than I do.

Maybe dude found the parts sans shell and this is the only thing he felt close enough to the original, tried it out and actually liked the sound? And with the shortage, or scarcity of the original this was a more economical solution. And sounds like it works. Coffee Break2

Hmmmm I wonder if one of the bidders asked why the shell looked so "strange", so maybe he made a bee-line for the forum to find out for sure? I would hope this is what happened. And that you are doing the right thing by notifying the bidders, and maybe modifying the listing.....?
