Yes, well I've tried a few head combos but finally settled on Ambassador's top and bottom..batter is a coated X.. Am using 16 strand Pearl Phosphor bronze.. it cuts through nicely.. And still sounds nice with brushes & nylon Rakes..

But the rims are still my favorite piece of this snare..

Cheers

John

Thanks Stephen and Jim. I have to say that it was an easy job, just a strip and polish. No soaking parts to get rid of rust etc. A testament to the quality of the chrome and parts. It looked to have been a drum that got played fairly regularly but looked after too.

John - It'll probably end up with ambassadors and less wires. My 14x5 Sound king came with a coated x and I really like it. The controlled sound head kind of controls the sound a bit much, funily enough. The rims on the 5" sound great, better than the 6.5", but i suspect that'll change with a coated Amb.
