Slingerland Super Sound King Question Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Loading...

Hi,

I am looking for clear pictures of, and screw thread details for

the snare wire adjusting screw parts, for the 60s-70s Super Sound King.

If possible, I would like to fabricate these pieces.

If you have these parts for sale or trade, I am interested -- please PM me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Larry!

Just saw your thread. This picture should help you. It's from a SSK that I had some years back. The threaded portion is 10-24 and accommodates a Slinglerland tone control knob. You'd need one heck of a press to form the flat section of the rod! I don't recall the thread size for the screw attaching the snare wire, but it might be 6-32.

Mark,

Thank you.

That, is exactly what I am looking for!

After using the tone-arm knobs for this project, I have the old tone arm bars that work the damper. One end is flattened, so I may be able to cut, tap and die the ends of the new piece.

Two more questions.

- Did the first gens of the SSK use smaller knobs (what size?),

- when did the snare guards first appear? and

- do you know who might have any available?

Again, thank you so much for the help!

Best-

Larry

Hi Larry,

The first generation used the same diameter knobs, but a different style. In catalogs, the snare guards first appeared in 1973, which also shows the new strainer style, too. As for the guards, you just need to keep checking sites like eBay, or even post in the wanted section of this forum.

Check this link to see catalog pages of Slingerland snare drums. Just scroll down to the years you want to see.... http://vintagedrumguide.com/slingerland_catalog_pages.html

I looked through my Slingerland parts and found these parts that might work for you. They are from a Slingerland Yellow Jacket pedal. As you can see, one of the rods has been cut down, but still long enough to work with the SSK. The other rod has a bend, but, again, you can cut it down the desired length. You may also need to use a 10-24 die to put the threads higher up the rod. You can tap the existing holes to accommodate a 6-32 screw. The adjusting knobs can be installed so the flat portion faces the drum. These parts will at least get your SSK working. If you would like them, you can have them at no charge. You're in the States, correct? Just PM me with your complete name and address.

Hi Mark,

I apologize for not getting back to you a year ago!

Seeing the first picture was the answer that I was looking for, I didn't think to check back with you.

I really appreciate the offer.

Thank you.
