Slingerland vintage set - how to ID Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Loading...

I have a marine pearl Slingerland rock set with 2 timbali toms, one floor tom and bass drum. There is no badges but the washers on the insides of the drums that hold the lugs say: "Slingerland Chicago IL USA". The shell appears to be solid mohagany with maple. I got this set in the 60's and it was old then. Can anyone help with age of this set by what these washers say?

Do you mean the two toms are metal shell tibales? Or might you be incorrectly calling the two small tom toms timbales? Pictures would help us give you some real helpful answers.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Here's some pictures - hope they help. This is one of the two toms that mount on top of the bass drum.

Those toms are Radio kings that have unfortunately have been altered. They are not really called timbale toms, but usually just toms or mounted toms.If they are a matching set ,the bass drum and the snare drum should have cloud shaped badges the say Slingerland Drums,Chicago Ill..

Post some more photos of the whole set.

Here's some other pictures of the rest of the set. Let me know if you need to see close-ups on anything. Thanks for all your help.

What are the modifications you see? The set has no badges I know. Also, there's no bottom rims/heads. Is that what you mean?

I'm cleaning them up along with my Holiday 8-lug (like Powertone) Rogers snare and pedals and all. I don't play anymore and I think I will sell them if I can get a decent price. Otherwise I'll wait.

The mounting system for the toms.

There should be no badges except for the bass drum which looks to have fallen victim to the post mount.

This means holes have been drilled for the mounts, a big detractor to the value.

Still a groovy outfit, but unfortunately far diminished in value.

I imagine the tom tom mount was added to make it more of a rock set. There are 3 holes in one of the toms that are filled that I think may have held a tuning or muting adjustment piece of hardware.

I don't have the bottom rims or heads for the toms but I do have the rim and hardware for the other bass drum head.

So, when you say it's still a nice set, how much nice? I know about the economy and all - what could it fetch today? or in 5 years if I wait? Any ideas? I guess the Slingerland set should be sold together, not separately, right?

I'm working on one of the toms first - it's a lot of elbow grease. I'm not trying to get rid of the yellowing - just cleaning, waxing, and polishing. Haven't seen any rust yet.

Thanks again, guys!

Around here you will get the low end of the spectrum....

I'd put them on eBay with a high BIN price but accepting best offers and see where that takes you.

OK - But what would be a high BIN price?
