Slingerland vs. Ludwig Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Ludwig had sharp bearing edges? I've never seen one, actually, Ludwig and Slingerland were made pretty similar. Now Rogers and Camco had the sharper bearing edges and you saw a lot of jazz drummers using Rogers. We all know what propelled Ludwig to the top....Ringo.

Well all of the older ludwigs (maybe later 60s to 70s era?? ) had a 45 degree bearing edge at least on the inside of the edge.. (my old wfl 50's snare has more of a roundover i think)

My point was, slingerland seemed to stick with that roundover up through the mid 70's and I THINK ludwig had already advanced onto a different bearing edge to POSSIBLY cater to the louder, rock crowd ??

someone please school me on this if im wrong

My early '70s 3-ply Ludwigs had horrible bearing edges. Rounded would have been acceptable, but some of mine were flat with visible saw marks. The quality of my 6-ply Ludwigs are much better. Sound better too.
