I just picked up a Slingerland Yellow Jacket bass drum pedal. Never heard of them before. I tried searching and didn't find any useful info. Can anyone give me any background about this pedal? Thanks in advance. Gerald.

I had one in the late 70's and remember liking it. Single-tension, cool footboard, that did the job for a teenager. Sorry I can't offer other specifics, but the name rang a bell. Think it broke and I couldn't find parts for it (way before the internet). Moved on to a Tama single-spring, from there.

Gerald.. As I recall there is a good paragraph write up in the Rob Cook's, The Slingerland Book... let me dig my copy out and see what it says. I think I have about 4 Yellow Jackets in the basement.. two whole, a couple in pieces. I really like the Yellow Jacket... easier to go heel toe on that larger footboard (at least for me).... did you find a yellow one??

Not a Guru... just interested..

Thanks for the replies. Yes, mine is a yellow one. Looks almost brand new. Has 2 springs. I have not used it but it yet but it seems to be very solid. It looks like a really good pedal. I never heard of them before.

Here's a quick "thumbnail sketch" on the Slingerland Yellow Jacket bass drum pedal" :

The #943 Yellow Jacket pedal made it's debut in the 1979 Slingerland catalog. It is in essence a very close relative of the ORIGINAL #942 Super Speed pedal that was around/offered as far back as the 1971 Slingerland catalog... possibly earlier. The Yellow Jacket shared the same "style/type" build as the Super Speed, but with a slightly redesigned footboard as well as spring towers. Everything else is very similar to the Super Speed! The yellow painted #943 was most probably a marketing decision, as it was also available as the #944 which featured a black painted finish. The #944 looks quite a bit like the ORIGINAL #942 Super Speed, and so much so that I would suspect that they are the same in their mechanics. I have BOTH catalogs and was able to A/B compare the two of them. I also had a #942 Super Speed back in the day as well, but eventually discarded it for the Rogers Swivo-Matic which I continue to use today. Anyway...

The Slingerland #943 Yellow Jacket.. ( the actual YELLOW one ) .. was a neat pedal back in 1979... and probably still is today! Hope this was of some help Gerald!
