Slingerland Zoomatic Parts Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I recently picked up an old Slingerland COB snare that's in pretty good condition aside from the strainer missing the knob and bolt to keep tension on the snares. I'm not yet sure what to do but I was kind of thinking about just replacing the Zoomatic with a Dunnett George Way one point strainer ( http://www.gibraltarhardware.com/?fa=partsdetail&curcat=2&bnd=11&cid=102&sid=452&pid=2958).

Does anyone know if this will fit the bottom hole of the three already existing Zoomatic mounting holes?

Or will this piece possible fit? http://store.trickdrums.com/replace-parts-gs007-gs007-adjustment-knob-assembly-gs007-adjustment-knob-assembly/dp/1002

Thanks in advance.

Here's what you need...a bit on the pricey side, but very cool!

I had seen that but I was hoping for something more on level with my budget. Would the adjusting screw/knob from a Ludwig tom or snare muffler's work if I were to put a spring behind the strainer to keep tension?

Are you saying that the threaded bolt that goes into the shell is also missing? If not, the biggest issue is that it has left-hand threads and needs a matching threaded rod.

One of the major issues with purchasing a Slingerland snare drum with Zoomatic strainer is that all parts need to be there, especially if you don't have spare parts. If you just want this to be a players drum, you can also install a P-85 style strainer. Yes, you'll need to drill two small holes 2.5" apart, but you'll have a functioning snare drum. I have seen Zoomatics for sale on eBay, complete with all hardware.

Yeah, the threaded bolt is also missing. But it is going to be a player's players drum, not a collecting piece, so is there any special method to drilling through Chrome over Brass?

No special methods. The brass shell is easy to drill. Just be sure to support the inside of the shell with a piece of wood so as not to cave in the shell. Again, it's all pretty easy if you have the simplest of mechanical aptitudes!

You can make a couple small brackets to bolt the P85 style strainer too on the shell. I bought a snare where this was done with a Pearl strainer. It replaced a old Clamshell strainer on the throw side. But it was nice no new holes were drilled in the shell. Oddly enough the zoomatic strainer holes are almost the same (or the same I'd need to measure) to the old Clamshell style. This way you avoid having to drill holes in your nice COB shell. It's just simple "U" shaped bar stock that's been cut and drilled to fit. Here's a few pictures. Ignore the L bracket in the bottom of the strainer. It was just a quick thing I did to try the extended snares on my drum. If your handy these are easy to make. If your not I'll measure the holes exactly to the zoomatic I have here and send these brackets to you if they'll work. I've replaced this with the original parts on my drum. You can cut 2 small rectangles of felt to put against the shell so the brackets don't chafe the chrome.

If you wouldn't mind sending me the measurements on those little pieces that'd be awesome, though if you don't mind just sending the pieces themselves that'd great too! That looks like a pretty great little solution!
