slingerland/ludwig kit- niles badges, Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hello everyone!

I just bought a drum kit that came with a Slingerland kick and tom, along with a Ludwig tom.

The Ludwig tom has a mid 60's keystone badge, according to http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_badges.html. The serial number on it is 592020. It appears to be 14"

The Slingerland kick is 20-22" (i dont have a tape measure- i think it's 22"). It has a Niles badge and a serial number of 187501

The Slingerland tom looks like it is 12" and has a serial number of 184824. This also has a Niles badge.

Any information, as to age, history, value, ideas on resoration etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and take care!

Hi,

Nice old kit! You gotta track down a matching floor tom. The only suggestion I'd make would be, to add the missing sticksaver hoop to the slingy tom reso side, and purchase a set of sticksavers for the Ludwig. With sticksavers all around, even with different lugs, no one will be the wiser that it's a mixed brand kit. From out front the kit will look uniform, like a 'set.'

I'm a sucker for BDP. I've owned a few kits and will undoubtedly own another when the opportunity presents itself. Nice drums, enjoy.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Hi,

Nice drums! The Slingerland bass and tom date to around 1975. I've seen Slingy bass drums and toms of that age sell for between $100 and $300 on ebay, but this could vary greatly depending on their condition. As for restoration, I would start by just cleaning the drum wrap with some Novus plastic cleaner and polish (numbers 1 and 2 for light scratches) and using some turtle wax to clean and polish the chrome hardware. Cool set! Put some more pics up of the interiors and such if you can. Any extra holes? Oh, and try to find a matching floor tom if you can! They tend to go for around $300-350 on ebay for a 16".

Thanks for the replies,

I am going to start with giving the drums a cleaning. James-Thanks for the ideas on the wax. I was looking at http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/slingerland_badges.html, and the badges on the drums are black and brass variety. I hear that Slingerland was not too particular on what badges go where, but according to the website, the drums would date to the 1960's, not 1975. This is my first group of drums that I am going to try to fix up, so I am not one to try to correct you-just curious on how you dated the drums. I will also post more pics soon. Thanks!

Purdie Shuffle: I also like the idea of changing out the hoops on the ludwig. Good, inexpensive addition. Thanks

If money is an issue, you could sell the Ludwig tom, and look to buy a Slingerland floor tom. Black Diamond Pearl--especially the larger pattern that Slingerland used--is one of my all time favorite drum wraps.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
