Slingy kit on Columbus OH CL for $450 Last viewed: 1 day ago

Cool looking 5pc Slingerland kit just posted on Columbus OH CL.

Anybody know if this would be an original finish? I'm tempted, esp. seeing what appear to be black & gold badges, but it's not been long enough since I bought my other early 70s Slingerlands, and the 9-months-pregnant wife might thoroughly pummel me. They appear to be in decent shape...wonder if those bottom hoops are GONE-gone, or just removed. Hey, somebody snag 'em, if you're keen to!! I'll forego my finder's fee! :-)

Not bad....YES, blue satin flame IS an original factory color. Also, it IS for a 5-pc plus some cymbals and hardware (the cymbals might be decent, who knows ?) Lastly, looks like the coffee-milk color painted interiors, 3-ply shells...those were good shells !

I would haul it over there to check 'em out. The one word of warning I would have is: old stain flame wraps tended to get pretty scratched up, so it may not look as cool in person as it shows in the pics.

But if everything is in decent shape and the wrap is still pretty good, $450 is a pretty darn fair price, really.

BTW...the thing about pregnant wives is...it's easy to outrun 'em....:o

Thanks Jaye - you know, I gave in and emailed the seller after all...asked if they were still available, asked a few questions...if there's any chance he'd take $400 or a trade (I've got a few things I'd part with), I might dash over there and check them out. I'm really liking that finish. And as you say, the cymbals could be decent and potentially worth the asking price in their own right! I know Slingys aren't fetching what Ludwig, Gretsch and some Rogers fetch, but I love mine and as such they seem to me to be one of the better buys in the vintage market. Maybe not for "flipping" but for playing, yeah, I'm all about it.

Thanks again for your sage advice, as always! Cool1

I had an early 70s Slingerland Kit in that exact finish and LOVED it! It really looked great under the lights. Jaye's correct in regard to the scratching on satin flame finishes but, unless you're up extremely close, they really look great on stage.

I also notice that this particular kit comes with the Artist model snare. Most I've seen had the Hollywood Ace. Unless there's extra holes in the shells or some other unmentioned modifications, functional or cosmetic flaws, the price seems more than reasonable.

Good luck with the purchase!

I had a late sixties Slingerland in blue satin, and it was really scratched up. Put 'em on stage and no one would noticed, looked real cool under the lights. Sounded great, too. $450 sounds perfect, make sure there's no cracks in the shell or separating of the reinforcement rings. (fixing the rerings isn't that hard, though)

Still haven't heard anything back from the seller... :( even a courtesy "they're gone" would be nice.

I'm losing my patience with CL sellers who don't include phone numbers and then don't respond to emails. I emailed about this kit probably about 5-6 hours after it listed - I deserve some kind of acknowledgement.

Maybe they just don't know how CL works...keep thinking maybe I'll get an email that says, "hey, sorry, I haven't checked my email since Saturday!" DOH

And if 5 people e-mail they probably open the last one and that person gets lucky. I got an e-mail response from a person selling a 1969 Ludwig standard for $350.00. The e-mail siad yes I still have the drums. So I e-mailed them back and gave them my number to call me. That was last night and I havn't got a call or a second e-mail. Do they want to sell the stuff or not. When I put something on CL I respond ASAP because I want MONEY!!!
