slingy RK questions.... Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hi all, I have a few questions that I can't seem to find the answers to . I have done several searches......I really like the look of the Radio King streamlined lugs. I'm wondering if the hole spacing is the same as the large beavertail lugs. I guess even if the spacing was the same, if I were to swop out beavers for streamlined , you would still see discoloration around the lug on the shell because the beavertail is wider but.....

Also, I came across a beautiful looking but in my opinion way over priced 9X13" Radio King ride tom on Ebay with streamlined lugs. I'm sure a few of you have seen this drum. The drum has the two holes with bolts installed where the ratchet mount would normally be, and it also has a diamond clip mount installed as well. Now this is a late 30's drum....I didn't think the diamond style clip mount was in production back then but the seller assured me it was factory and the two holes were also drilled in the factory as an option. Actually the seller was quite nice in his response to me, but also said he was selling it for the original owner so I don't know where he was getting his info from. So question two is, when did the diamond clip mount go into production? Lastly , was that really a Slingerland option, I mean drilling extra holes in a drum so a buyer could decide down the road what mount to use seems ridiculous. I guess if it was a special order but .....

Thanks.

Paul

If 2 & 4 falls in the woods...... thanks for the pearls of wisdom guys but I'm more interested in finding answers to the specific questions that I asked....just for the sake of knowledge . I'm not looking to buy any over priced drums at the moment. Thanks

That was the answer. No, it would not have been an option ... the seller is suspect and as such, doubt creeps into this decision. Your gut was correct. Sorry if I was not clear before.

RogerSling, I'm under caffeinated and not thinking to clearly yet. You were clear...I'm not.....

Thanks, you have confirmed my suspicions. Do you know when the diamond clip plate came into production ? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Jaghog, I understand your dislike for Ebay. It seems like selling on there no longer makes sense but I can't stop myself from looking. I'm obsessed with the look and sound of 40's Radio Kings!

From the Cook book on Slingerland, the Ray McKinley tom holder came out in 1947 and looks to be the first to use the diamond clip mount for the tom.

There were two sizes of Streamline lugs, I know the larger have a 3 inch hole spacing, I just measured the ones I have. I got no help on the smaller streamline lugs as to hole spacing.... ain't got none, brother
