Snappiest Piccolo Head Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Friends:

I have been looking into the snappiest, highest pitched heads available for piccolo drums in general (13 or 14 inchers). Some believe that Remo Coated Ambassadors or Emperors are the best. Others swear by Evan's Genere Dry Heads. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A matter of preference.. but I like the coated Remo Ambassador for most of my snares, though I sometimes use a coated Emperor. On my 3x13 early 60s piccolo, i use the ambassador. I have never been a fan of Evans Dry heads, as I tend to like some resonance. I like a snare head to resonate, and then I can muffle from there depending on the sound that I want. The Evans dry heads are sort of a "one trick pony" to me..

i had a tama 13 inch piccolo that i bought from a pawn shop. it came with a jack dejanette black coated head. i never would have put that head on it but after i changed it to a remo coated it never sounded the same. so i bought a new dejanette to put back on it. that was the snapiest greatest sounding little snare. maybe you should try one to see how it sounds.
