Snare side head replacement Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hey everyone

I have a Ludwig standard snare side head that came with it when I bought my snare (LM402).

I bought it in 2011 and I'm still using it.

When I took off the head to clean up my supra. I saw 5 dents on the head, and 100's of tiny white spots where the snares were. Does these things have a negative effect on the sound.

I'm experimenting on tuning and, like never before, I hear an irritating snare buzz, because of some overtone or something...???

Is the snare side head tuned too high?

Should I replace my snare side head?

If it has a high number of playing hours and tensioned up all that time, also depending on how deep the dents are then yes replace it try a Remo ambassador

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Evans Hazy 300. Crank the snare head. You can tune it as high as an A note. When adding tension to the snares, listen carefully for when they kiss the head. Tension it just a *skosh more and it should be perfect. If your still getting snare buzz, check the snare wires themselves and then check the position of the wires over the bottom head to make sure they are centered between the bearing edges evenly.

*If you don't know how much a 'skosh' is... it's just a wee bit more than a tad! :p

Too many great drums to list here!

I like to use thin Ludwig snare side heads on my Ludwig snare. I would replace the one you have presently.
