Sorry to keep harping on this, but I looked at the hole pattern on my 16" RB floor tom today and I'm still confused as to how it's done "correctly."
There is significantly less room between the two lug holes than between the outer lug hole and the bearing edge. That means that if you just cut down one side to beyond the outer lug holes, it won't be possible to place the lugs in the correct factory position. Hopefully that makes sense. Eyeballing it, it looks like the lugs would be 1/2"-3/4" off or so, too close to the edge.
Does that mean you simply ignore the lug placement relative to the edge and go with what is possible? Or do you plug holes and make things look right?
Maybe I need to ask someone who's done one of these conversions professionally.
