So how is a 16x18 bass drum conversion done? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

From green glass drum

Are those the original tom lugs?Or did you install BD lugs?Or shim out the tom lugs?Usually with wood hoops, you have to shim the tom lugs out or install BD lugs.Or did your wood hoops fit fine with tom lugs?Nice BD.

Aren't Gretsch large lugs the same on 16"+ floor toms as they are on their bass drums?

Sorry to keep harping on this, but I looked at the hole pattern on my 16" RB floor tom today and I'm still confused as to how it's done "correctly."

There is significantly less room between the two lug holes than between the outer lug hole and the bearing edge. That means that if you just cut down one side to beyond the outer lug holes, it won't be possible to place the lugs in the correct factory position. Hopefully that makes sense. Eyeballing it, it looks like the lugs would be 1/2"-3/4" off or so, too close to the edge.

Does that mean you simply ignore the lug placement relative to the edge and go with what is possible? Or do you plug holes and make things look right?

Maybe I need to ask someone who's done one of these conversions professionally.
